Ashley Lederer, MS, RD, CDN is a health and wellness expert specializing in chronic disease prevention and management, healthy weight loss, food allergies and gastrointestinal disorders. As the founder of Thoughtful Food Nutrition, a nutrition consultancy with locations in New York City and the Hudson Valley, Ashley works with a wide range of clients to implement real food solutions. She is also an adjunct nutrition lecturer at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park.
Ashley’s research on nutrition policy has been published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, the Archives of Internal Medicine, and the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In 2016, she was named one of New York City’s 40 under 40 working to transform the food system by the New York City Food Policy Center at Hunter College.
Before establishing Thoughtful Food Nutrition, Ashley was a Senior Advisor in the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention & Tobacco Control, where she developed innovative policies and programs to improve access to healthy foods. She played a key role in the design and implementation of groundbreaking nutrition standards, impacting over 260 million meals and snacks served each year. She has worked with school food nutrition, early childcare programs, senior centers, hospitals, restaurants and faith-based organizations to foster comprehensive healthy eating environments. Ashley has hands-on experience in the kitchens and cafeterias of some of the largest hospitals and businesses across New York City.
Ashley completed her clinical dietetic residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. She received her Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from New York University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in biological sciences from the University of Texas at Austin.
Ashley lives in New York with her husband and two daughters.
